Another world now is a contemporary art project that includes performances, urban actions, billboard and video

It is curated by Francesca Guerisoli, Carlotta Pezzolo and Anna Daneri and organized by CHAN. 20 artists and collectives join the project:
Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Simona Barbera, Ruth Beraha, Gabriella Ciancimino, Leone Contini, Ronny Faber Dahl, Elena
Bellantoni, Chto Delat, Circolo Bergman, Dora Garcia, Domenico Antonio Mancini, Elena Mazzi/Eduardo Molinari,
Marzia Migliora, Chiara Mu, Giuseppe Stampone, Serena Porrati, Oliver Ressler, Beto Shwafaty, Kristian Skylstad, The Cool Couple
.

Another world now stems from the need of a collective engagement through art in a historical very fragile gobal moment which has also been worsened by Covid-19 pandemic.
Another World Now aims to address the legacy of no-global movements twenty years after the G8 in Genoa, looking at the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, so that it does not remain just a “nice promise”, but it turns out to be a set of concrete actions.

Twenty years ago, “Another world is possible” slogan marked the gap between what it was and what it should have been. Between the status quo and the prospect for a different world. A very ambitious polarity that risks to create a furrow between realists and dreamers, between a world we should have embraced after all and another one impossible to build. The same visionary arguments that informed no-global movements, today occupy the heart of the global Agenda.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development relies right on the idea of a different and better world. This Agenda is a “plan of action for people, planet and prosperity”; it has been signed by 193 UN countries and adopted by General Assembly on 25 september 2015. The plan consists of 17 goals and 169 targets that nations committed to implement and reach by 2030.

These are universal goals and targets which involve the entire world, developed and developing countries alike. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and
environmental.
As written in the official document, UN General Assembly participants “resolve, between now and 2030, to end poverty and hunger everywhere; to combat inequalities within and among countries; to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies; to protect human rights and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls; and to ensure the lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources. We resolve also to create conditions for sustainable, inclusive and sustained economic growth, shared prosperity and decent work for all, taking into account different levels of national development and capacities. As we embark on this great collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.
Recognizing that the dignity of the human person is fundamental, we wish to see the Goals and targets met for all nations and peoples and for all segments of society. And we will endeavour to reach the furthest behind first.”

These desired achievements do not seem to be so far from no-global movements demands, instead they appear to be an institutionalized integration of some authors (see Naomi Klein o Vandana Shiva) whose suggestions inspired ideologies of the movements.
The role of civil society will be to monitor that these ambitious and feasible goals are achieved in the awareness that
another world it is not only possible, but necessary and practicable.

Another World Now stands between possibility and feasibility. It is the maturation of a process and it expresses the need for a grounding, political, institutional, cultural change. Who better than artists can think of other worlds? Through performances, installations, videos, actions and urban posters artists take over the city of Genoa questioning the possibility and the need for change.

Scrap, no market value elements , rewriting history admitting exclusions made on the basis of gender and/ or ethnicity, new relational scheme determined by the pandemic, relocation of places, reflection on technologies and their “dark” implications, diffuse temporalities of an interconnected planet are among the themes that guide the artists this project.
Another World Now is part of “Genoa 2001 twenty years later: another world is needed” which is a program organized by over 30 national and local civil society organizations and associations. The initiatives will take place between 18 and 22 July in both the center and suburbs of Genoa city: from Ducal Palace to the Circle of the Harbour Authority; from the Luzzati Gardens to Music for Peace where there will also be activities related to widespread art project.

More detailed information about artists works and the full program of the events will be provided in a further press release and communicated via Another World Now social networks.
